Creamed Peas
A Southern side dish that’s hard to beat. The sweetness of the peas paired with the creaminess of the sauce make it a perfect addition to any meal.
In a small saucepan over high heat, add:
1- 15 oz. can Young Sweet Peas, liquid only, saving peas in can for later
1 tsp. Minced Dried Onions
1/2 Tbsp. Butter
Black Pepper to taste
Bring to a boil. Allow to cook for 5 to 10 minutes, or until liquids have reduced by half.
After liquids have reduced, lower heat to medium. Sprinkle in:
2 Tbsp. All Purpose Flour
Whisk briskly to incorporate flour into liquid. Once smooth add, add:
1/3 cup Milk
Stir slowly and allow mixture to thicken. Add additional milk as needed to reach your desired creamy texture. Add:
Canned Peas
Gently stir to coat peas. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
Perform a taste test and adjust seasonings to your personal liking.
