Old Fashion Banana Pudding

This recipe has been passed down through the generations in my family. It takes a little time to make this made-from-scratch dessert, but there is nothing like it. The smooth, decadent pudding is a crowd pleaser every single time.

Banana Pudding

In a saucepan or double boiler, combine:

  • 1/2 cup Sugar

  • 3 Tbsp. All Purpose Flour

  • 1/4 tsp. Salt

Whisk until no lumps are present. Then add:

  • 2 cups Milk

Place over medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened (about 10 minutes). Continue cooking for 10 minutes more. Beat:

  • 3 Egg Yolks (room temperature)

Slowly add a small amount of hot mixture to yolks while whisking briskly to temper the egg. Return tempered mixture to saucepan. Add:

  • 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract

Cook for 5 additional minutes, or until pudding is properly thickened. In casserole dish, layer Vanilla Wafers, bananas (I use 3-5 bananas total), and pudding. Top with meringue. Bake at 425 degrees for 5-7 minutes.
